Wyandot Lodge
The Need
The Wyandot lodge was built to replace a 1960s era facility to house environmental education programs (McKnight Outdoor Education Center) for kids of all ages, including summer day camps. The site is known as “Indian Village”, where it is believed the Mandan Tribe had a long-term encampment into the eighteenth century. With our help, the Recreation and Parks Department set a net zero energy project goal in alignment with the City of Columbus’s 2015 Green Memo.
Our Approach
During design, we defined the net zero energy goal and other owner’s project requirements. As the enhanced commissioning agent, we provided continuous energy-focused technical support through design, submittals, construction, programming, and hand-off to facility staff. We are continuing to monitor the facility’s energy performance and identify operational energy efficiency opportunities with the net zero energy goal in mind.
The Results
A beautiful facility that incorporates the educational components around energy use of the building into its needs for environmental education. The building is well sub-metered and has an interactive dashboard. Facility and maintenance staff have a well-document Systems Manual that helps staff to understand how to use the building’s features (shades, windows, daylighting, to achieve optimal energy performance.
